To successfully manage your time during the 150-minute CTET exam where you must answer 150 questions, you should aim to spend roughly 50 to 60 seconds per question, banking the remaining 15–20 minutes to review your OMR sheet and double-check uncertain answers. Since there is no negative marking, you must attempt every single question without hesitation.

Suggested Time Allocation Strategy

  • First Pass (90–100 Minutes): Answer all the questions you know immediately and skip anything that takes longer than a minute.
  • Second Pass (35–40 Minutes): Return to the tricky or calculation-heavy questions you skipped during your first round.
  • Final Review & OMR Filling (15–20 Minutes): Systematically transfer your answers to the OMR sheet, ensuring no bubbles are misaligned or left blank.

Subject-Wise Pacing Guide

  • Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Questions / 25 Minutes): Read the concept-based questions carefully, but answer quickly since these rely heavily on immediate intuition.
  • Language I & II (30 Questions Each / 25 Minutes Each): Spend a bit more time reading the comprehension passages, keeping your pace steady at around 50 seconds per question.
  • Mathematics & Environmental Studies / Science & Social Studies (60 Questions / 50 Minutes): Save extra time for solving numerical or analytical problems, but do not get stuck on a single difficult question.

Pro Pacing Tips

  • Never leave blanks: Take advantage of the CTET Information Bulletin guidelines stating zero negative marking by guessing any remaining questions in the final minute.
  • Mark OMR in chunks: Instead of filling the OMR sheet at the very end, bubble your answers section-by-section to prevent last-minute panic or transcription errors.
  • Watch the clock: Keep track of major time milestones rather than every second (e.g., check that you are halfway through at the 75-minute mark).

  • Watch the clock: Keep track of major time milestones rather than every second (e.g., check that you are halfway through at the 75-minute mark).
To avoid costly bubbling mistakes on your 150-question CTET OMR sheet, use the block-by-block filling method—completing and bubbling a full 30-question section before moving to the next, rather than waiting until the very end of the 150-minute exam. This prevents transcription fatigue, keeps your mind engaged in alternating subjects, and ensures you never run out of time while your test booklet lies half-transferred.

Step-by-Step OMR Strategy
  • Step 1: Mark the booklet first: Circle the correct answer lightly in your question booklet as you solve each question during your first pass. [1]
  • Step 2: Bubble in blocks of 30: As soon as you finish a single subject section (like Child Development or Language I), immediately transfer those 30 answers to the OMR sheet. [1]
  • Step 3: Verify question serial numbers: Match the question number on your booklet with the OMR row before placing the pen down—misalignment is the number one cause of lost marks. [1, 2, 3]
  • Step 4: Darken fully and quickly: Use your blue or black ballpoint pen to fill the circle completely with a firm, swift motion without tearing the paper.

I am an asstt. teacher (maths) by professsion. I have cracked various exams like ssc cgl, psc(wb) clerckship exam, psc miscellaneous and appeared wbcs main twice. Someone has rightly said, " The best part of Learning is Sharing what you know". That's what I am trying to do and I am still learning .
